Research the maintenance needs

Overall I have been pleased with my Q7, but I would suggest that any potential buyer invests in time-consuming due diligence to truly understand what is necessary for the maintenance of a performance vehicle. I experienced loud brake squeaking around 15,000 miles and was told that I would most likely need to replace in the span of a few months. At 20,000 miles I have been advised that my tires and brakes need to be replaced. This is very common amongst Audi and the Q7. It is a critical missing piece to truly understand the cost of ownership and I think it is important for the consumer to know.
Other than that, the Q7 fits my needs offering a usable third row without the large size. It is somewhat generic interior is unimpressive. The technology within is fun, and like most new things, can be glitchy at times. Overall it is reliable.ā¦
Surprisingly dull, not quick, big SUV

After driving my Son in laws Audi A5 with the 2.0 turbo I was impressed by the performance so I thought Id give the Q7 a try with this engine. I found the driving experience more similar to my Chevrolet Tahoe than to my Acura RDX. The car is big (wheelbase within 1 of Tahoe) and does not feel sporty. It is quiet and smooth, and the interior appointments are first class. The German MMI system is complicated and causes the driver to take attention away from the road. With the 2.0 turbo, power is adequate but not inspiring. With the size of this vehicle, it lumbers around corners. And then there is the low rpm 4 cyl groan sound that I hate. The comfort drive setting causes the low rpm shift points that make you feel like the car is lugging. Dynamic improves that somewhat. I should have bought the BMW X5 or tried the Audi Q5. 3rd row seat is extremely difficult to enter/exit. Best thing about it is that it stows well and you can forget it is there.ā¦
Great ride with quite a few misses and limitations

I have the 2.0T Premium+ with Warm weather package and a few other add-ons. I would've happily traded the tow package for Running Boards if I could've, as I know I won't be towing anything especially with a 2.0T engine. Anyways the car rides smooth and the extra 3rd row is good enough for occasional use when we have extra passenger or two. Gas mileage is not the best and I had to train myself with the gas pedal for better mileage. Interior is nice although more plastic than I preferred on a luxury vehicle. Also extremely limited storage space inside, especially the driver side compartment that also serves as a not very effective arm rest and wireless phone charger. It has a very confusing or should I say not a very intuitive MMI and you have to scroll through menus and back to find something that should've been there in one particular or say multiple menus. For example if you want to add a favorite in navigation, it is not available in most of the navigation menus and you have to scroll back and forth through several screens to find it. Saving your destinations especially one's downloaded from myAudi or phone is a very long chore and confusing as well. When you send a location from phone to your Audi navigation you cannot save it to favorites right away. You have to select and engage it first as if you are driving there now and then scroll through various menus to be able to save it. Not having a touch screen complicates it further as you have to add a new name to that location even though the destination already has it and you already sent it with a name and location from myAudi. Ridiculous!! There are various other limitations to most of the features. There is no remote start for those cold or hot days. Opening the power tailgate and closing it between the hands-free, the FOB key, the switch on the driver door, and the trunk has it's own limitations and requirements which becomes very confusing. It works with one way in certain conditions and not in others so I never know what will work every time. The 12V sockets are of no particular use and I am not even sure you can put a cigarette lighter in it. I am saying this because I have been blowing fuses just because of using a USB car charger on the rear sockets. Going through the manual I found out there is a 1AMP fuse for all the sockets!?!?! 1AMP?!?! I have yet to see a car that too a UTILITY vehicle that has limitation of 1AMP for the 12V sockets. Forget about using it with any electrical equipment let alone a cigarette lighter. I know I seem to be on a rant here but these are important misses from a higher end utility vehicle for me. Other than that the car is awesome in comfort and drive. Giving it 4 stars for that but the annoying little limitations and misses keep it from a 5.ā¦
